Upcoming Events:

AUGUST 2010

On August 21, 2010 the Westfield and Southwick Democratic Committees will hold an event for the Democrats of Mass. at the Sons of Erin Club in Westfield.  The event will be held from Noon until 3:00 p.m.  Watch this space or local newspapers for more information.  It is expected that local and regional candidates for the upcoming Primary Election and the November elections will be attending.


JULY  2010

July 23, 24, 25 Southwick Days will take place.  This is a cooperative effort of the Southwick Parks and Recreation Department, the Southwick Firemen's Association, the Southwick Rotary and the Southwick Cultural Council.  Events include: a carnival, live theatre in Town Hall, fireworks, parade, BBQ competition.

June 2010

The Southwick Democratic Town Committee debate between Democratic candidates for Hampden County District Attorney.  The event will be held on Tuesday June 22, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. .  The event was held at the Town Committee Headquarters on College Highway (across from Summer House Restaurant)  More than 50 people attended with extensive press coverage including Channel 22, the Westfield Evening News, the Republican, the Reminder newspapers.

Monday May 3

The ribbon cutting for the new Southwick Rails to Trails.  This event was held at 1:00 p.m. at Miller Street and the rail trail.  Attending dignitaries included a staff member of Congressman John Olver, State Representative Rosemary Sandlin, Commissioner Rick Sullivan (former Westfield mayor), The Suffield First Selectman, State Senator Michael Knapik and other state and local officials.  The emcee for the event was Kelly Magni the Chairman of the Southwick Parks and Recreation Commission.  Other members of the Commission were also in attendance.

The trail now connects the southern half of Southwick with the rail trail system in Granby (CT) and ultimately with Farmington and other communities to the south.  This event is open to the public.  The northern half of the rail trail is currently under construction to the Westfield town line.  This project is under the supervision of the Town of Southwick Parks and Recreation Commission.


Tuesday May 11

The Annual Town Elections  took place on May 11 and all candidates on the ballot were elected.  Specific results by candidate and precinct is available on the Town website at www.southwickma.org

Special Town Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the High School.

Past Events:

On October 4, 2009 the very successful Autumn Buffet was held.  Thanks to those that attended.  Watch this website for upcoming events.

During August 2009 Rep. Rosemary Sandlin visited the Southwick Public Library to tour the facility and find out first hand the impact of local and state cuts to the Library and statewide library services.  This visit was not announced to the public or press.  She has been helpful in supporting libraries statewide.

Local residents including the Town Committee Chairperson attended the MA. Democratic Party Convention held on Saturday June 6, 2009.  The annual Convention was held in Springfield at the Mass Mutual Center.  In addition to the local delegates selected by local residents several months ago others including area members of the State Democratic Committee attended. 

Area elected officials including the Mayor of Springfield, Congressmen John Olver and Richard Neal were also in attendance.  Both the Lt. Governor and the Governor addressed the thousands attending the convention.  Pictures from the Convention will be added, check the "Pictures" section of the website.

Local Town elections were held on May 12 in Southwick.  Congratulations to those that won seats on the various positions open during the local elections.

The grand opening of the Democratic Headquarters for the May 2009 local elections was held on Thursday April 23, 2009.  A large number of Southwick residents were in attendance including Selectman Cataldo and State Representative Rosemary Sandlin.  The Headquarters is located at 549 College Highway (Routes 10/202) in the business center of town.  Many of the Democratic candidates for election in May attended.  Following the opening activities a workshop entitled "Becoming Involved in Town Government" was held. The presenter was Professor Kenneth Haar from Westfield State College, a veteran of local Southwick elections.

The Democratic Town Committee Annual Spring Dinner was held at Tucker's Restaurant on Friday May 1, 2009.   Many area residents attended including residents from Westfield, Agawam and Springfield.  The Mayor of Chicopee  and a staff member of the Hampden  District  Attorney's Office  spoke  to those at the Dinner.  The area  State Senator  Michael Knapik  from Westfield also spoke.
