____________
The issue of allowing bargaining rights for state and local government employees has been in the news lately. On Sunday February 27, 2011 Michael Bloomberg the Mayor of New York City wrote an opinion piece on this issue.  Here is a link to the article as published in the New York Times.  It describes the issue in a clear and concise way with practical information on how the issue impacts residents of New York City.
___________
The Board of Selectmen (BOS) have selected a new Fire Chief.  The "acting" Chief was selected at the April 4, 2011 Selectmen's meeting. [Not reported in the Press as of 4/6/11 a.m.]
___________
The MA. Dept. of Revenue (DOR) has certified the Town's "free cash" for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2010 at $ 1,610,302.  This is the amount of funds in last years budget that was not spent.  These funds can be used next year (FY 2012) or saved in the "stabilization fund."  With the upcoming election of 2 positions for Selectmen a question could be to ask them what they would do with $ 1.61 million dollars and what would be done with the existing $ 2.75+ million in the stabilization (rainy day) fund.  This information is available at www.ma.gov then click on DOR then on local government.

[There are no Democratic candidates running for Selectman in the May 2011 elections.]
